Better.

Why, hello there. You know what helps one feel better? Prozac, and a Wii. Did I mention that last week was my birthday? And nine days before that was Scott's birthday? So we bought each other a Wii. Also, it's our ninth anniversary, um, tomorrow. And lo, we have a Wii! It's a present that keeps on giving. The Wii, that is. (Okay, also the medication. Huzzah for medication! Damn the naysayers!)

I am 39 now. And Scott turned 38. He's a baby. For nine days we were the same age, so we walked around nodding at each other. "Whoa," Scott said, and I said, "yup." He finally got it. Then I hurtled ahead of him and now he can't possibly understand my perspective on anything. I was born in the SIXTIES, man. It was DIFFERENT.

Oh, see, that I don't get at all.

Instead I find myself feeling quite the young thing for the 6 months and 5 days of each year when my husband is quite a bit older than I am. Then, he miraculously seems younger again for the rest of the year.

But we were both born in the same year of the 60's and we've been married for almost nineTEEN years. So honestly? We're both really as old as our teenagers think we are. Enjoy the last of your thirties!

So relieved you're feeling better. Those meds really can work wonders, huh?

Glad to hear (read?) you are feeling better.

I get you! My husband is 8 months younger than me and likes to rub it in around my birthday even though I'm more than generous around his with the compliments. Eh, he can bite it.
As for the Wii, have you tried the bowling? Talk about a workout!
Huzzah and happy birthday!

I am sooo glad you are back and are feeling better. I've been thinking about you a lot lately. Keep playing the Wii. Nothing but good times.

Happy birthday and happy anniversary to you and Pretty Rambo. I'm so so glad to hear you're feeling better .. keep on truckin'.

yay! yay! super yay! did i mention yay?

Happy Birthday! Glad you are back and feeling better.

My sister and I are the same age for 18 days (my poor sainted mother). When we were little, she used to drive me nuts by telling me, "I'm older than you now because my birthday was first." Drove me bonkers. (I am getting heart palpataions just thinking about it now.)

People in their late 30's were born in the 60's. I never actually stopped to think about that ... things are different ...

Happy birthday, anniversary and all the rest.

My 39th birthday is in 3 weeks and I, too, celebrated by getting a Wii (it should be delivered today)! Something about 39th birthdays and Wiis just naturally go together, don't they?

My husband and I recently had our 11th anniversary and bought ourselves a Wii Fit - it is so much FUN and provides us with lots of laughs! You think the bowling is a workout - so did I, until I discovered the Super Hoola Hoop!

So glad to hear you are feeling better. And happy late birthday to you and Scott. We bought a Wii for our Christmas present and it is fabulous. I love tennis!!

Dearest Alice,

Why happy birthday to you, old dear. I hope 39 is a good one for you. Personally I had difficulty with it, but it's a long, sordid story that I will not bore, nor boar you with.

But I'm over it now! And this July I'll be sliding into...43. Ack.

And the 60's WERE different.

Trippingly,
Joe

So glad you are feeling better. It is amazing how the meds (I call them life rafts) they can make you feel like yourself again.

My husband was born 23 months after me--he in 1970, me in 1968. Why does that 60s/70s thing make all the difference? And now I'm 40, and he still has more than 18 months left of being in his 30s...

Happy Birthday Alice!! Sooooo glad your feeling better.

Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary (we were 9 years last week, too)! And can I hear an AMEN for medication? It's a tool, not a crutch, and the hell with anyone who tries to tell you otherwise. Glad to hear you're feeling a bit better.

Yikes. I was just a year out of college when you were born. I'm heading up to Wellesley this weekend for my 40th reunion. Started reading your blog after the Alumni Mag published your story a while back. So glad you're feeling better! Drugs, Wii, whatever it takes it's a good thing.

I am so jealous. I want the Wii terribly but my hubby decided the Playstation 3 was the way to go. Boo. I may have to lobby for the Wii for Christmas. Should probably start sucking up now.

Happy Birthday and Anniversary!

Hooray Prozac and birthdays and anniversaries! I have no Wii, though, so I can't comment.

Glad you are feeling better. Hugs.

Congrats on the Wii. I think you'll LOVE it! And happy birthday and happy anniversary and all that good stuff.

My "type" is older guys you could say, and right now my husband is 30 and I am 29 and he's like you're just a young twenty-something and you're married to a guy in his thirties, how hot is that. And I'm like VERY HOT.

So glad you're doing better. I'm seriously considering going on meds for my own reasons and it's encouraging to read how fast they've helped you. hoping things continue to brighten up for you...

Just bought a Wii, too! I've been Wii-dicted since my best friends got one. Just ordered one off eBay and am dying for it to get here! Wii Fit is so much fun! I mean, fun, given that you're working out. :)

I <3 Wii. When you get tired of exercising your body, get Big Brain Academy and exercise your mind :) Me and my husband have been married 10 years this year. He is 38 like your husband but I'm only 30 (snicker). I get way too much enjoyment out of making him feel old.

Oh, and yay Prozac!

The Wii is the bomb! We love it...just bought it for my husband's birthday...we play it almost everyday. Glad to see things are getting better for you!

Better living through pharmaceuticals I always say!

I turned 50 the day after your birthday. I feel really old - I was born in the fifties!

Do you ever feel the urge to say Wii differently each time? Like, uh, a different weird "wheeeee" pronunciation? I have been known to do this in my head when people talk about their Wiis and I must tell you, it adds to the amusement value. I am sharing. Because I am a giver. (No, because I have feel the need to tell someone of my affliction). But really? Everytime someone tells me of their Wii I'm saying the word back in my head "Wheeee" with a slightly different emphasis (enthusiastic, sarcastic, sarcasticaly enthusiastic, confused, happy, etc). I realize this is not normal, but it does crack me up. You have to admit, it's a funny name, right?

...Okay, just me.

Happy Birthday!!

Oh, good! Better is good. :) And the Wii is fun as well. We got ours at Christmas, and added the Wii Fit a few weeks back. Too fun, but better used without witnesses in some cases. ;) Happy anniversary, happy birthdays, and happy better!

Happy Birthday(s)/Anniversary! I'm glad you are feeling more like yourself--Prozac and the like are miracle drugs! Also, I may have to give in and get a Wii....

My husband is still in his 20s and, um, I'm in my 30s and have been for a while now. Where you make a big deal out of being a '60s baby, I tell him that he wouldn't understand since JIMMY CARTER was president when he was born (I'm a Nixon baby). He calls me a cougar in response. Fair enough :)

Mario Kart on the Wii = awesome

Glad to hear you're feeling better!! Happy belated birthday, too!

I am more than 4 years older than my husband, and that is such a mistake. Woe to him if he ever even thinks the thought, "I feel older now" on his birthday. Because if he is old, that makes me ancient.

Happy birthday! This is why I married a man 6 years older. He will always be over half a decade ahead of me. OK thats not the ONLY reason but I sure do enjoy it.

My husband is 3 1/2 years younger than me. Talk about making me feel old. I was out of high school before he even started! I was a child of the grunge era, he thinks grunge is something you scrub off the bathtub. Not that my tub has any grunge on it, mind you!

Happy Birthday!

I just got a prescription for Xanax. Why didn't I start taking it sooner? Yay drugs!

I am so glad you are feeling better- I generally just blogstalk you 'cause you are so funny and irreverent- my heart was breaking for you during all of this. And the Wii? a very awesome way to handle all household disputes("who's going to do the dishes? not me. well not me either! Wii boxing settles it!" I've gotten pretty good, I hate dishes.)

Wii would like to play.

So what games to you like?

Oh and glad to hear you're feeling better.

Happy birthday! Happy anniversary! Happy pharmaceutical improvement... something.

Congrats on the Wii 'cause it rocks!

Wii Hooooooo! Prozac and Wii, whatever it takes, man. Glad to see you feeling a bit better. :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

The sixties were different. No wonder you are so much groovier than Scott. I too married a man born in 1970. I'm trying to levitate the pentagon and all he wants to do is grow a mustache.

Yay. I'm very, very, very glad you are doing better.

I am a naysayer but I would take medicine in a heartbeat if (a) it worked and then I could get off it and (b) it did not do bad things to me like make me weigh 1000 lbs. and become utterly unable to wake up in the morning, etc. I'm only a naysayer about me, in other words and to cheer up otherswho can't do meds so they know there are options. For you: GO PROZAC!!!!

Happy Birthday!

I love my happy pills. I also love chocolate. And lemon bars. I should probably look into getting the Wii. Might help with the whole diabetes thing.

I'm glad you're feeling better.

A Wii rocks. Meds rock even more (this from an avid Effexor fan). Woo, antidepressants/antianxiety meds!

Want to feel even younger? Marry a guy 12 years (yep, 12 years) older than you. I guarantee you, it works like a charm ;).

Yeh I get that from him too - "I was born in the SIXTIES, man. It was just DIFFERENT." (not that he'd know - he's a country boy, and basically missed the entire counter-culture revolution. But still - it's DIFFERENT.)

Oh, Prozac is such a gift from G-d. Glad it is doing the trick and happy birthday!

Okay--I just googled Wii and found a helpful Wikipedia entry. So now I know what the hell you are talking about.

I am such a luddite....

I think you need to post a picture of your Mii (s)

Happy Birthday!I am glad you are feeling better!

I turn 41 this year and my husband just turned 51. Yeah, I NEVER get to complain about my age.

How do you like the Wii? I bought one more than a week ago and we have yet to hook it up and play.

welcome back & happy birthday & happy anniversary & happy scott's birthday & happy wii...happy happy...ps i'm all for drugs...bring 'em on...

Anti depressants, well, saved my life and is my peppermint lifesaver every fucking day. As for Wii? Kids have the Wii, but we just got Wii Fit, which is way cool. Funny to play soccer, hula hooping, ski jumping and aerobics and yoga. Holy shit, it is fun. (and I normally don't care about the video games. Happy birthday!

I was born in 1970, and for some reason that feels WAY younger than if I were born in the Sixties. Oh yeah... 38. Can you say w-r-i-n-k-l-e-s? Yeah, that's me any day.
